This is our 48" Peter Schuttler Wagon which was manufactured in Chicago, Illinois. "Of the tens of thousands of horse-drawn vehicle makers in the U.S. during the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Peter Schuttler Wagon Company was one of the most legendary. Steeped in Chicago history and America’s western lore, the roots of the company go back to 1843. From use on farms and ranches to freighting on the plains and hauling ore from western mines, Schuttler’s durability, craftsmanship, and attention to detail earned the company the pinnacle of brand loyalty and a highly enviable reputation during its eighty-plus years in Chicago." This particular wagon was sold to a dealer in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1916. It was then sold to the Schrock family of Yoder, Kansas which was in the harness business along with farming and ranching. More recently this wagon was purchased from their farm and ranch auction in 2008. John Schrock, which owned the harness shop, told Wayne the history of the wagon. In 1947 the Amish communities were divided with half of them settling in Jamesport, Missouri about 50 miles northeast of St. Joseph, Missouri. John Schrock drove this wagon with a team of horses to Jamesport. This is a very unique wagon which has factory bolster springs and would be considered a heavy duty wagon. It would work well on ranches which have rough country. The wagon comes equipped with chuck box, wagon sheet, dutch oven boot, 15 x 18 cook fly, cedar poles with pole rack, wrought iron stakes, barrel with barrel rack, all ropes, axe and shovel.
